Three journalists with the South African TV channel Supersport were on March 1, 2010 kidnapped near Owerri, the Imo State capital in South-east Nigeria. The journalists: Nick Greyling, a sound engineer; Alexander Effiong, a cameraman; and Bowie Attamah, a sports commentator were returning from covering a football match in the nearby city of Enugu, 150 kilometres (94 miles) away and were close to the Owerri Airport when gunmen accosted the bus in which they were traveling and ordered the three men to go with them. The fourth man, Jolias Layefa, was shot in the leg during the incident and taken to the hospital for treatment.
